Mr Chatenya Chauhan is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who has practised since 2002 and holds a specialist interest in the hip. His aim is straightforward: to give every patient a clear understanding of what is wrong, an honest view of the options, and enough time to reach a decision they are comfortable with.
Qualifications and training
Mr Chauhan graduated in medicine from Dundee University and went on to lecture in anatomy and physiology at Sheffield University. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the Yorkshire region, then held the Zimmer Fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, one of the national centres for complex hip and knee reconstruction, where his fellowship work included hip resurfacing.
During training he spent a year in research at Smith and Nephew, working on methods of assessing and treating joint cartilage damage. That research background still shapes how he weighs up evidence when recommending treatment.
Professional memberships
Mr Chauhan has been a member of ISAKOS, the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, for over two decades. Membership keeps him in contact with international practice and with the implant and technique developments that reach UK patients.
Teaching, leadership and research
Alongside his clinical work Mr Chauhan teaches and mentors junior doctors and General Practitioners, and has received an award for outstanding teaching at Southend Hospital. He completed an MBA at Hertfordshire Business School, graduating with Distinction and receiving the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research. As a Clinical Lead at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust he led the move from paper to digital surgical consent, which improved how clearly patients were informed before their operations.
